We made the most of the small sliver of good weather to take a punt down the river Cam. This is the Bridge of Sighs, students have to pass through it on their way to get exam results.
And the Mathematical Bridge, supposed held up by maths :)
This is the Eagle pub, a frequent haunt of Crick and Watson. It was also has graffiti on the walls and cigarette burns on the ceiling from WWII airmen in the RAF bar.
Believe it or not, this is the ceiling in the entrance to a museum I visited. The building itself was spectacularly ornate, not to mention it was filled with artifacts dating back thousands of years!
Kings College Chapel...
The fan vaulted ceiling is utterly stunning. The walls are covered in carvings that promote the current King's dynasty (Henry VIII at completion) more than its religious purpose.
The next pictures are of Trinity College. King Henry VIII wanted to found a college at Cambridge, and because he was a big wig, it had to be in the best location along the river. However, there was no more space available, this didn't stop the king, instead he amalgamated two smaller colleges to make Trinity.
We also learnt about the tradition of night climbing. The colleges used to have a curfew so the gates closed at a certain time and if you were out, you were out for the night. Some mischievous students didn't let this bother them, instead climbing the college walls to get back in. This turned into something of a game, and over the years the roof of Kings College Chapel has been graced by road cones and festive decorations as well as banners protesting the Vietnam War.
